Today’s leisurely walk Tokyo Fukagawa
Fukagawa is one of the most scenic spots in Edo. Ukiyoe prints depict scenes of Fukagawa in those days.
This tour will take you on a stroll through this old and new town, once bustling with waterways and lumber that supported Edo’s urban development, and now a center of art and culture.
Sumiyoshi Station, the starting point of the tour, is served by the Shinjuku Line of the Toei Subway and the Hanzomon Line of the Tokyo Metro.

Sarue Onshi Park, located near the Yokojuma River that runs north-south through Fukagawa, was originally a lumberyard of the Tokugawa Shogunate that had been in existence since the Edo period, but was opened as a park in 1932. With a total area of 145,000 square meters, the park is divided into the north and south sides across Shin-Ohashi Street.
The north side of the park is known as the best place to take pictures of Sky Tree, and the spacious plaza is full of greenery. On the south side, you can enjoy strolling in the well-kept Japanese garden, where the trees and rocks reflected on the surface of the upper pond, the stream and murmur from the Kaede Bridge, and the water plants in the lower pond are beautiful and soothing.
Going south along the riverside of the Yokosuma River, you will find the cross-shaped Onagi Clover Bridge, which spans the river intersection with the Onagi River.
C.Konaiki Clover Bridge
The unusual cross-shaped bridge is built at the confluence of the Onagi River and the Yokojuma River, and from the middle of the cross you can see the Tokyo Sky Tree.
The romantic atmosphere is often used as a filming location for TV dramas.

From here, head west and cross the Oyoko River, and you’ll find Kiba Park, home to tennis courts, botanical gardens, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo.
