About of Tokyo Skytree
Tokyo Skytree is a free standing radio tower in Oshiage, Sumida Ward. Its height is 634m which is taller than Tokyo Tower; in addition, it is authorized as the tallest broadcasting tower in the world by Guinness World Records.
The plan to build the broadcasting tower second to Tokyo Tower started around 2000. It aimed to make the broadcasting efficient, and to develop the region as the tourist spot.
They decided to locate it at Sumida, Daito area in 2006, then started to build from 2008. In 2012, Tokyo Skytree was completed and it is now a popular place to visit as the new symbol of Tokyo.
The design concept of the Tokyo Skytree is “a large tree reaching toward the sky. The base of the tree is important, and the foot of the tower is triangular in shape to ensure stability and to avoid oppression and sunlight problems in the surrounding area.
