History

The Mori Art Museum is an art gallery located in the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower in Minato-ku, Tokyo. It features contemporary art works modeled after the modern Roppongi Hills Mori Tower.

Opened in October 2003 on the top floor of the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, the museum has a relatively short history compared to other museums. Because the museum is still young, it frequently exhibits works by young artists, mainly from Asia, and is a place where visitors can get stimulated by artworks that are constantly being updated with the times.

The museum collects artworks from a unique perspective, which opens up the possibility of encountering more dramatic works of art.

About the STARS Exhibition

One of the highlights of the Mori Art Museum’s exhibitions now is “STARS Exhibition: Contemporary Art Stars from Japan to the World”, which features works by six world-renowned contemporary art leaders.

The six artists are Yayoi Kusama, Lee Ufan, Tatsuo Miyajima, Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara and Hiroshi Sugimoto. By exhibiting both their early works and their latest works, we can see the trajectory of these artists.

Art is a universal aesthetic that transcends nationality, borders and culture. This is an opportunity to see works of art that will surprise and impress everyone, and to experience the essence of the work, including the intentions and messages it conveys. As you look at the works of art, you will find your heart racing, admiration to the works, and your emotions moved to the point of unconsciousness.

The STARS exhibition unravels the work of art by focusing on the unique social, economic and cultural context of Japan. In this way, visitors will not only be stimulated by the beauty of art, but will also learn about contemporary Japanese society. The exhibition will stimulate your appetite for knowledge not only by seeing the works, but also by learning about the careers of the six artists and the history of contemporary Japanese art.

Photography is allowed except for a few works marked “No Photography”. Many artworks generally may not be photographed, but at the Mori Art Museum, you’ll be able to capture your memories of the trip. Please note that the use of flashes, tripods and selfie sticks, as well as video recording is not allowed.

The STARS exhibition runs from July 31, 2020 to January 3, 2021. Don’t miss your chance to experience the gorgeous art that comes together in one place.
