Today’s stroll Haneda
During the Edo period, Haneda prospered as a fishing village with extensive fishing grounds, and after the Meiji period, as the gate town of Anamori Inari Shrine. This tour will take you on a stroll through the town, walking around temples, shrines, inaris, and riverside areas that are related to the fishing industry and retain vestiges of those days.

A.Keikyu Line Tenkubashi Station
It is a Keihin Electric Express Railway and Tokyo Monorail station, 6 minutes from Keikyu Kamata.
Due to the eviction policy by GHQ after World War II, there are no private houses east of the Ebitorigawa River in front of the station.
Right in front of the station is the Ebitori River.
Tenkubashi”, from which Tenkubashi Station is derived.
B.Haneda Airport Tenkubashi Pier
You can enjoy watching the ships come and go in a quiet and unpopular place.
It is a landing place for cruise ships to Odaiba, although it is not used very often.
You can enjoy the rare experience of watching airplanes take off and land at Haneda Airport as they fly overhead.
Cross the bridge and take a walk along the river.
C.Benten Bridge
Walking along the river, you will soon come to Benten Bridge. The Ebitorigawa River joins the Tama River beyond this point, and immediately beyond is the ocean. Fishing has long been practiced in Haneda, especially from the Meiji to Showa periods, and the area flourished as a seaweed-gathering area.
On the parapet of the Benten Bridge, a relief depicts seaweed cultivation. Fishing is still carried out in Haneda, where sea eel and shrimp are caught.
After crossing the Benten Bridge, the vast grounds of the airport can be seen in front of you on the left. And in front of you on your right is the red Otorii (Grand Gate).
D.Former Otorii of Anamori Inari Shrine
Originally, it was the first grand torii of Anamori Inari Shrine, which was located in what is now Haneda Airport. Today, the torii is no longer administered by Anamori Inari Shrine, but by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and the flat plaque on the torii reads “Peace. The torii towering over what appears to be an abrupt location still conveys the history of Haneda, which has undergone a dizzying transition.
Continue along the river.
E.Gojukenbana Muenbutsu Hall
There is a small Jizo-san at the very edge where the Ebitori-gawa and Tama-gawa Rivers meet. It is said that in the past, many bodies of people who had been in water-related accidents washed ashore near the end of the Tama River, so a shrine was erected here to offer memorial services.
F.The site of Haneda’s Ferry
In 1939, the Daishi Bridge was built across the river, ending the bridge’s role. The current Daishi Bridge (cable-stayed bridge) is the second generation.
Walking upstream from the mouth of the Tama River, one can see the remnants of a fishing village. Fishing boats and houseboats are also moored here, where you can enjoy fishing and night views of Tokyo Bay.
G.Haneda Shrine
Founded in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), Haneda Shrine was so deeply believed in by the people that even Tokugawa shoguns visited the shrine during the Edo period. The Haneda Festival held every year in the last week of July is the largest festival in Jonan.
Because of its location, it is also believed in by airline companies and is visited throughout the year to pray for safe flight operations and air safety. Many people come to pray for the success of pilots and cabin attendants.
H.Haginaka Park
It is a large park with a “traffic park” where you can practice bicycles, a “junk park” with actual old vehicles, and a wide variety of playground equipment.
In the summer, you can enjoy the waterslide at the price of the ward residents’ pool, and the sound of children’s voices is always heard throughout the year.
I.Anamori Inari Shrine
It is said to have been built around the first year of the Edo Bunka Era (1804).
The area was cultivated more than 200 years ago. However, the sea was nearby, and seawater would invade through large holes in the coastal breakwater, flooding the fields even when they were plowed, so the natives worshipped a god of good harvest, and the god who “protects the fields from the damage of the holes” came to be called “Anamori Inari” (Anamori Inari).
In 2020, renovation work was completed on the temple grounds, including the Senbon-torii gates that line the approach to the temple.
J.(Goal)Anamoriinari Station
Keikyu Kamata Station is about 3 stations away in 6 minutes. Today’s walk ends after passing through the red torii gate standing at the entrance of the small station.
