History of FUJIYA HOTEL
According to the hotel website, the founder, Sennosuke Yamaguchi, learned the future of international tourism from Yukichi Fukuzawa when he was a Keio University student, and was founded in 1891 and has been operating as a hotel exclusively for foreign guests for 20 years since 1868. Therefore, sculptures and paintings are displayed everywhere in the hotel to convey the charm of Japanese culture, and the charm continues to this day.
The hotel that survived repeated fires and wars was expanded according to the times, and the guest room building consists of the main building, the Western-style building, the Hana Goten, and the Forest Wing, and now it is mysteriously integrated. Six buildings, including the main building, which features a shrine and temple appearance, a Western-style building with a typical from the Meiji period, a two-story dining hall, and a flower palace that imitates the schoolhouse (Azekura) structure, are nationally registered tangible cultural properties.

Interior Decoration
The decoration of the hotel is colorful with traditional Japanese techniques and colors, giving the impression that you are looking at arts and crafts!
FLOWER PALACE
Each room at FLOWER PALACE is named after a Japanese flower or plant, and the room tag depicts that flower.
MAIN DINING ROOM “THE FUJIYA”
When you go to the restaurant, look at the ceiling painting. Flowers of the four seasons in Japan are painted on boards and embedded.
Helen Keller and the long-tailed rooster
Many foreign tourists have stayed at Fujiya Hotel, and the hotel’s guest list includes the names of many famous people, such as Charles Chaplin, the king of comedy, and Helen Keller.
Helen Keller was very sad because the long-tailed rooster she liked was dead when she revisit. The hotel owner made a rooster sculpture on a pillar for her. Currently, it remains on the pillar in the front lobby, and rooster is carved on the room key too.

Inside the museum is a historical materials exhibition room that displays photographs and furniture from the time of its establishment.At the museum, which is open only to guests, visitors can learn about the history of Fujiya Hotel.
From April 2018 to July 2020, the building was closed for earthquake-resistant repair work and reopened on July 15, 2020. Many tourists will visit Fujiya Hotel from now on.
